For days when you would like a little more activity, there are plenty of choices available. Cypress Bend Park, just down the road, offers sandy beaches, picnic and camping areas, as well as boat launch facilities and pavilions for gatherings. There are dozens of major fishing tournaments held at Toledo Bend Reservoir and Cypress Bend Park hosts many of them - and has 6 boat launch ramps to accommodate boaters. North Toledo Bend State Park is near by and the newly opened South Toledo Bend State Park is just a pleasant drive to the south. There are a number of park facilities operated by the Sabine River Authority of Louisiana - ranging from very primitive areas to extremely nice, modern facilities offering tent camping, RV camping, and cabins. |

World famous Hodges Gardens is a short jaunt from Bailey Bluff and is the nation's largest privately owned horticultural park. Breathtaking gardens offer a special experience year-round. Toledo Bend is one of the nations major flyways for birds and, as such, is very popular with birders from all over the world. Naturalists find the area valuable for rare flora - some unique to the area. The large amount of forested land on the Louisiana side and the Sabine National Forest on the Texas side provides a great deal of habitat for a variety of wildlife, too. |

Nearby Many, Louisiana provides opportunity for shopping. Major national stores are not too distant, either - Shreveport, Alexandria, Natchitoches, and Lake Charles, Louisiana offer not only the stores, but museums, restaurants, casinos, and night life. The area has a resplendent history. Just 45 minutes away is Natchitoches, the oldest settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. El Camino Real, the King's Highway, is just minutes from Bailey Bluff and runs on through Texas to Mexico. The area's history is celebrated in such festivals as the Free State Festival (the area was once a lawless no man's land in the disputed territory between the US and Mexican Texas), logging festivals (the area has an extensive history of lumbering), the Tamale Festival (celebrating the area's Spanish/Mexican heritage), and Indian Powwows. |
